“The decision to work with the SSET Centre was easy for European Athletics. It is the resource our Member Federations and event organisers need to create customised plans for meeting their social and environmental responsibilities and demonstrating our sport’s values.”

Why SSET ?

With Success Comes Responsibility

Sport has a responsibility to conduct business and events in a sustainable manner and an inherent need to respect the environment and the community. With its high visibility and participation rates, it has an opportunity to positively influence a wide audience.

The Olympic Movement

The Olympic Movement fully embraces the value of and commitment to sustainability. SSET incorporates the Olympic Movement’s Agenda 21, as well existing norms and standards related to sustainability and sport, and gives users a manageable approach to implementing these initiatives.

Don’t Recreate the Wheel

Most organisations don’t have the time or budget to start their sustainability efforts from scratch. The SSET Centre does the research for you, and lays out sustainable guidelines for sport events and organisations to customise and follow. Shared resources and costs make a seemingly overwhelming task much more manageable and attainable.

Proven Track Record

More than 10 International Sport Federations, two National Olympic Committees and 10 National and International Events are applying SSET guidelines to their events, such as the Youth Olympic Games, the International Cycling Union, the 2009 IIHF World Championships, and the Paris 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships. SSET has the full support of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as its Principal Supporting Partner, as well as European Athletics, EventScotland and City of Lausanne as its current Development Partners.
